21-year old QH/TB gelding,
Stinky, has enjoyed his winter rations with Alpha Boost for 3 years. He has always had a bit of a tender digestive system, even in North Carolina where he had good grass all year. When we moved to Montana, by January all the horses had to eat was hay, and the deep snow stressed him to the point of developing ulcers. Adding Alpha Boost brightened his coat and his outlook, helped settle his stomach, and his condition was much improved. His frequent mild colics all but ceased. I made Alpha Boost a regular part of his winter diet. Now Stinky lives in coastal South Carolina, on Bermuda grass pastures that go dormant in November; he loses weight and condition very quickly when the grass dies down. Adding Alpha Boost puts the spring back in his step and the dapples in his winter coat! We were actually considering euthanasia when....
Abby is a 21 yr old Thoroughbred. She ran on the track for a short period and then was turned into a broodmare for most of her life. She was retired from breeding and sent to Alder Hill Farm for her golden years. Due to a poor farm manager she was neglected and starved. This girl went from a body score of 5 to 1.5 in 2 months. There was no reason that she lost weight other then not being fed. A new set of volunteers stepped in and took over the day to day care of the horses. Day after day our hearts were broke because Abby just would not put on any weight. After many trips to the vet and following vet recommendations nothing changed. She stayed at a 1.5, we had her on a daily regime of grass, hay, grain, weight gain and red cell. She got up to a body score of 2. We were actually considering euthanasia when some one suggested we try Alpha Boost. When we received the Alpha Boost we noticed a big change in Abby. She started putting weight ON! Now after 45 days we are ready to order more for her because her body score is now 3.5. She has all her hair back and she is cranky and feisty again. She is our old lady again. 11 year old, 16h Saddlebred—‘Tanner’
Tanner is a very healthy, shiny coated horse, but for about the past 5 years, in the Fall, when he begins to shed, the days get shorter and we take him off grass, he gets the “squirts”.  His feces are normal—no diarrhea or squirts when defecating.  The squirts happen when he is not defecating—quite often while he is eating.  He “rocks” back and forth on hind legs lifting each one as he does so—from the pain of the gas build up—then squirts.  It can be as full and strong so as to hit the stall wall and run down.  I’ve had to continually wash his back legs throughout the winter to keep the fluids from drying and building up.  It is quite the mess.

The vets have determined that it is his hind gut “fermenting chamber” and not his digestion that is the problem.  The “chamber” is not totally fermenting his food.  Originally, they said to immediately take him off grass—that only made it worse.  I added soaked beet pulp to his diet and that helped a bit at first, and even though I continued with the beet pulp it didn't’t clear up the squirts.  I tried different supplements, etc., but nothing ever cleared him up like Alpha Boost has. 

It took a bit of experimenting and about a month (as seen below) until I got to the correct dosage, and of course this next Fall, I will begin with a low dosage and continually work up to whatever he needs, but I don’t anticipate it taking so long.  He also is a bit picky about how food is presented to him.  I had to mix the dry powder with a bit of soaked, moist beet pulp and grain, and he slurps it down!  We feed our horses 4x a day (dividing the full day’s intake into 4), so had to come up with a time after a feeding when he would have an empty stomach and about 1 ½ - 2 hours before the next feeding.  Once we figured it out, no problem.

Now that I have discovered Alpha Boost, I will begin feeding it the first part of October, 2013 and hopefully prevent the squirts altogether.  It is so nice to see my horse comfortable while he is eating with a relaxed body and tail.
